They say that in a healthy marriage couples will argue; but they know how to argue; they can disagree and discuss things (sometimes emotionally charged) without using hurtful words. Their arguments are tempered by love.
A healthy society argues. But in such a society people know how to argue. They do not simply try to silence those they disagree with. They do not pretend everything is well when it's not.
Many people today don't know how to argue so they simply avoid arguing at all costs or try to silence those who do (see here). This is unfortunate because when a community of people do not allow discussion on emotionally charged topics, that community will not advance.
The good book says to "speak the truth in love." If we are going to save western civilisation we need to learn how to argue and we must have the courage to be guided by our conscience (see below).
If you'd like to become more persuasive, I strongly recommend reading Tactics. (If time is an issue, just read chapter two. Note: The book was written for Christians but is useful for anyone who wishes to influence others.)
